Biography

Jeff Koseff is the William Alden Campbell and Martha Campbell Professor in the School of Engineering at Stanford University and an Emeritus Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering. He is a founding co-director of the Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment, specializing in environmental fluid mechanics. His research focuses on the interaction between physical and biological systems in natural aquatic environments, with current work on turbulence, internal wave dynamics, coral reef and seagrass hydrodynamics, the roles of natural systems in coastal protection, and the transport of marine microplastics. Koseff has held various leadership positions, including Chair of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Senior Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs, and Director of the Environmental Fluid Mechanics Laboratory. He has served on the Board of Governors of the Israel Institute of Technology and has been involved in multiple visiting committees at prestigious institutions. Koseff is a fellow of the American Physical Society and the California Academy of Sciences, and he has received various awards for his teaching and contributions to engineering education at Stanford, including the Richard W. Lyman Award. He is an active member of several professional organizations and advisory boards.
