Biography

Jeffrey McGuirk is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics at Simon Fraser University. His research focuses on ultracold degenerate gases, particularly Bose-Einstein condensation and quantum dynamics. McGuirk has significantly contributed to the field by exploring novel quantum states and the effects of quantum symmetry on quantum behavior in nondegenerate systems. His work includes the experimental realization of macroscopic quantum states, which has had a profound impact on the studies of quantum mechanics. McGuirk's group investigates the interplay between quantum symmetry and atomic interactions, examining phenomena such as the transport of spin in ultracold gases. He actively encourages motivated individuals to join his research team, offering M.Sc. and Ph.D. positions in physics. In addition to his research, McGuirk is dedicated to teaching and has been recognized for his excellence in education with awards from the American Physical Society and Simon Fraser University.
