Biography

Jeffrey Park is a Professor of Earth and Planetary Sciences at Yale University and currently serves as the Director of Graduate Studies. His research focuses on Theoretical Seismology, Geological Time Series Analysis, and the structure of Earth’s interior, including paleoclimate. He earned his B.Sc. in Physics from Princeton University in 1979 and his Ph.D. in Earth Sciences from UC San Diego in 1985. Following his doctorate, he held a postdoctoral position at Princeton University before joining Yale’s faculty in 1986. He has conducted significant research on seismic anisotropy and mantle flow, particularly in relation to plate tectonics, and has served in various leadership roles, including as Chair of the Environmental Studies Program and President of the Seismology Section of the American Geophysical Union. His teaching philosophy emphasizes guiding students in defining projects that ignite their interests while developing strong quantitative and computer skills necessary for their research.
