Biography

Jeffrey Peters is a Distinguished Professor and Deputy Director of the Molecular Toxicology and Carcinogenesis program at The Pennsylvania State University. He received his graduate training at the University of California at Davis, followed by two postdoctoral fellowships at the Institute of Toxicology and Environmental Health and the National Cancer Institute (NCI). His research interests include biochemistry, enzymology, and gene regulation, with a particular focus on the role of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) in toxicology and carcinogenesis. PPARs are critical modulators of homeostasis and response to environmental stimuli. His lab utilizes various models, including loss-of-function and gain-of-function studies with mouse and human models, to elucidate the mechanisms by which both dietary and endogenous lipids modulate human health. Peters has served on several editorial boards and committees, and his work has garnered numerous recognitions, including the Toxicology Forum's George H. Scott Memorial Award in 2018 and the Gamma Sigma Delta Faculty Research Award in 2016. He is also a Fellow of the Academy of Toxicological Sciences since 2012.
