Jeff Pleiss received a B.A. in Chemistry from Northwestern University, where he worked in the field of organometallic chemistry under the mentorship of Tobin Marks. His graduate work was conducted in the lab of Olke Uhlenbeck at the University of Colorado, Boulder, where he learned biochemical and biophysical techniques while studying RNA biology. Following this, he supported fellowships at the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation in Christine Guthrie's lab at the University of California, San Francisco. In 2007, he joined the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at Cornell University. His research combines biochemistry, biophysics, molecular biology, and high-throughput genomics to elucidate RNA biology pathways critical for eukaryotic gene expression. His work is funded by the National Institutes of Health and the American Cancer Society.
