Biography

Jeffrey Sarmiento is a Senior Lecturer and Head of Glass at the School of Art and Design at the Australian National University. He previously served as an Associate Professor at the University of Sunderland, where he completed his PhD in 2011. He has an educational background from the Rhode Island School of Design and has been a Fulbright Fellow in Denmark, and has participated in artist residencies in UrbanGlass, New York, S12 Bergen, Norway, and Pilchuck Glass School. His pioneering work involves innovative print techniques in kiln glass, and he has taught workshops across various countries including China, Australia, New Zealand, Estonia, Latvia, Switzerland, Ireland, and the USA. He has served as a guest critic at UMPRUM Academy in Prague and was a jury member for Young Glass at Ebeltoft Glasmuseum. His creative practice focuses on exploring cultural identity through graphic images in glass, which results in intricately constructed objects and public art commissions. Sarmiento's works, which include glass printing and kiln-formed lenticular imagery, have been acclaimed, winning the International Glass Prize in 2012 and featuring in solo exhibitions in the USA. He has also represented Bulleye Projects in the USA and had works included in Glasstress at the 56th Venice Biennale.
