Biography

Jeffrey Schwartz, MD, is an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology at Yale School of Medicine and serves as the Program Director Emeritus of the Anesthesiology Residency Program. He earned his medical degree from the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center in 1985 and completed his residency in Anesthesiology at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center. Schwartz joined the Yale faculty in 1989, initially as an Assistant Professor. Over his career, he has held significant leadership roles including Director of Medical Student Education and Director of Continuous Quality Improvement/Morbidity and Mortality. His clinical and teaching interests focus on thoracic anesthesia, vascular anesthesia, and high-risk anesthesia. Schwartz has a strong commitment to resident education, mentoring over 300 graduates throughout his career and earning recognition as the department's Teacher of the Year on two occasions. His research interests include advancing perioperative care for morbidly obese patients and improving resident wellness within the anesthesiology training program.
