Biography

Jeffrey Yao joined the Hand Upper Extremity Service at Stanford University Medical Center in 2005 after completing his medical education at Cornell University Medical College in 1999. He completed his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where he was recognized as the Surgical Intern of the Year in 2000 and the Orthopaedic Surgery Resident of the Year in 2001. Following his residency, Dr. Yao furthered his training with a fellowship in Hand Upper Extremity Surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. He is board-certified in Orthopaedic Surgery and holds an added qualification in Hand Surgery. His clinical expertise lies in the treatment of various disorders of the upper extremity, including hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder conditions, with a specific focus on minimally invasive arthroscopic techniques. Dr. Yao's research interests involve the development and application of innovative surgical techniques, particularly in the context of stem cell therapies for tendon injuries. Over his career, he has presented his findings at numerous prestigious meetings and has authored over 110 peer-reviewed publications in his field. He is actively engaged in educating the next generation of surgeons and has served as a visiting professor at academic institutions around the world. Currently, he is the Director of the Hand Upper Limb Fellowship at Stanford and serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the Yearbook of Hand Upper Limb Surgery.
