Biography

Jeffrey L. Zitsman, MD, is a Professor of Surgery at Columbia University Medical Center and the Director of the Center for Adolescent Bariatric Surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital. He graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a degree in natural sciences and received his M.D. from Tufts University Medical School in 1976. Dr. Zitsman completed his General Surgery training at Tufts-New England Medical Center in Boston and his Pediatric Surgery training at Babies & Children's Hospital in New York. He is board-certified in General Surgery and Pediatric Surgery and holds a Certificate of Special Competence in Surgical Critical Care. With an active clinical practice in pediatric surgery since 1985, Dr. Zitsman's research interests focus on minimally invasive techniques in pediatric surgery, chest wall deformities, and weight loss surgery for adolescents. He has been recognized annually since 2002 in Castle Connolly’s list of Doctors in the New York area and has served on various prestigious committees related to pediatric obesity surgery. Dr. Zitsman has also acted as a consultant for the Medical Devices Evaluation Panel at the FDA, underscoring his expertise in bariatric surgery and repair of congenital deformities.
