Biography

Jelena Grbic is a Professor of Mathematics at the University of Southampton since 2012. With a strong focus on modern homotopy theory, her research interests encompass various aspects of Topology, Algebra, and Geometry. She has contributed extensively to the field by investigating decompositions, exponent problems in homotopy theory, and geometric problems related to cobordisms and string topology. Additionally, she is involved with Pure Mathematics research groups and has received sponsorship from the Leverhulme Trust for her projects on homotopy theory and Toric spaces. Before joining the University of Southampton, Jelena held positions as a Lecturer and Senior Lecturer at the University of Manchester from 2007 to 2012, and as a Lecturer at the University of Aberdeen from 2004 to 2006. She completed her Ph.D. in Algebraic Topology at the University of Aberdeen in 2004 and holds a B.Sc. in Mathematics from the University of Belgrade, Serbia, obtained in 1997. Her teaching expertise includes modules on algebraic topology and homotopy theory, and she has served as an external examiner for both undergraduate and postgraduate mathematics programmes at various institutions, including the University of Warwick and the University of Oxford.
