Biography

Jelle Saldien is a full Professor specializing in Interaction Design, Smart Products, and Human-Computer Interaction at Ghent University and the University of Antwerp. He received his M.S. degrees in Industrial Science from the DeNayer Institute in 2003 and in Product Development from Artesis in 2005. Dr. Saldien completed his Ph.D. at Vrije Universiteit Brussel in 2009, focusing on the design and development of the social robot Probo. He has held positions including lecturer in Industrial Design at Howest University College and Professor of Industrial Design at Ghent University since 2013. His research interests include the design of interactions between humans and technology, with a strong emphasis on user experience, prototyping, and interfaces for future products. Jelle was honored with the annual prize for science communication by the Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium for Science and the Arts in 2019 and was named one of the 50 Tech Pioneers in Flanders by De Tijd. He is also a Principal Investigator at Flanders AI and co-chair of Engineering, Design & Visualization at XRValley. Saldien has authored approximately 130 technical publications, sharing his insights on various aspects of product innovation and interaction design.
