Biography

Jemimah Young is a professor and teacher educator specializing in multicultural urban education at Texas A&M University. Her research focuses on academic outcomes for historically marginalized and minoritized populations, with a particular emphasis on Black women and girls. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses related to culture, identity, diversity, social justice, and research methodology. In addition to her faculty role, she has taught in K-12 schools and served as a consultant for urban schools across the U.S. Young has published in prominent scholarly venues, including Urban Education, Journal of Multicultural Education, and Teachers College Record. She is a co-editor of the book 'Cultivating Achievement, Respect, Empowerment (CARE) of African American Girls in PreK-12 Settings: Implications for Access, Equity, and Achievement' published in 2017. Currently, she serves as the program chair for the AERA Critical Examinations of Race, Class, and Gender SIG and is the founder and co-editor of the Journal of African American Women and Girls in Education. She remains active in promoting multicultural education within her department.
