Biography

Dr. Jenna Cash graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a first-class degree in Pharmacology (with Industrial Experience) in 2005. She was awarded a 4-year British Heart Foundation DPhil studentship at the Sir William Dunn School of Pathology, University of Oxford, where her research led to the discovery of chemerin, a protein that is proteolytically processed by activated macrophages to generate peptides with dual anti-inflammatory and pro-resolving properties. These chemerin-derived peptides were subsequently patented and underwent clinical trials for the treatment of skin inflammation. Following her DPhil, she received the Sir Henry Wellcome Postdoctoral Fellowship, spending time in various prominent labs where she developed specialized intravital microscopy techniques and cultivated a keen interest in wound healing. Notably, her findings on chemerin peptide C15 illustrated its capability to accelerate skin repair and reduce scarring. Currently a Chancellor's Fellow at the Centre for Inflammation Research, Dr. Cash's research focuses on understanding the mechanisms of wound healing and developing novel therapeutic approaches for chronic wounds. She has received several awards, including the Physiological Society Travel Award and the Emerging Investigator Prize from the London Matrix Symposium. Dr. Cash is also actively involved in public engagement, educating young students about the importance of microbes and wound repair.
