After a visiting scholar position at the University of Florida, she returned to Finland to pursue a PhD in alcohol epidemiology at the University of Eastern Finland, where her groundbreaking work earned her recognition as a Young Epidemiologist of the Year by the Finnish Epidemiological Society in 2011.
