Biography

Jennifer Altavilla-Giordano is the Program Director of the TESOL Multilingual Learner Education (Licensure) program at Boston University's Wheelock College of Education & Human Development. Her research focuses on professional development, preservice training, and instructional coaching for teachers working with English learners. She is passionate about collaborating with districts, schools, and teachers through research-practice partnerships to improve the school experiences of multilingual learners and enhance their access to grade-level curriculum. Jennifer's work has been published in prominent journals such as the International Multilingual Research Journal and the Journal of Multilingual and Multicultural Development. Additionally, she is a Posse Scholar mentor and an advocate for first-generation graduate students. With teaching experience at Stanford University, Lesley University, and Alder Graduate School of Education, she has also worked as a literature instructional coach and served as dean of faculty at Breakthrough Silicon Valley, while consulting for the National Network of Education Research Practice Partnerships and the Council of Great City Schools. Jennifer began her career as an elementary and middle school teacher and has held positions with the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
