Biography

Jennifer Baka is an energy geographer with a focus on understanding the interconnected political and biophysical processes that shape the systems of energy provision. Her research aims to evaluate the distribution of costs and benefits resulting from energy provision and to design strategies that reduce unequal distribution flows. Jennifer's work is particularly motivated by her experiences in the coal region of northeast Pennsylvania. She advocates for interdisciplinary research using mixed-method approaches to advance the fields of political ecology, resource geography, environmental governance, energy studies, and industrial ecology. Currently, she is collaborating with Dr. Joshua Newell and Joshua Cousins to establish the field of political-industrial ecology, a sub-field of nature-society geography that evaluates the social and political ecological processes sustaining industrial society. Jennifer's empirical research includes examining the social and environmental impacts of biofuel promotion in India and evaluating multi-scalar governance processes related to hydraulic fracturing.
