Biography

Jennifer Chan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Calgary and the Director of the Arnie Charbonneau Cancer Institute. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Dartmouth College and her MD from McGill University. After completing clinical training in Anatomic Pathology and Neuropathology at Harvard University, she undertook a research fellowship at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, before serving as a staff neuropathologist at Brigham & Women’s Hospital. Since joining the University of Calgary in 2008, Chan has focused her clinical duties on neuropathology at the Foothills Hospital and the Alberta Children's Hospital, concurrently managing a research lab at the Arnie Charbonneau Cancer Institute. Her research investigates the intersection of growth factor signaling and intrinsic determinants of transcription factor function in cell fate determination, neural development, and brain cancers. Chan directs the Clark Smith Brain Tumor Pediatric Tumor Bank and collaborates on projects to molecularly characterize brain tumors in both pediatric and adult populations. Her work aims to utilize advanced techniques in cancer research to model brain tumors effectively.
