Biography

Jennifer L. Freeman is a Professor of Toxicology in the School of Health Sciences at Purdue University in West Lafayette, where she focuses on environmental toxicology and molecular cytogenetics. She obtained her Ph.D. in Environmental Toxicology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and completed her postdoctoral work at Harvard Medical School's Brigham Women's Hospital. Her research interests include the molecular mechanisms of toxicity caused by environmental stressors, with particular focus on the developmental origins of health and disease (DOHaD) paradigm. She investigates the impacts of metals, pesticides, PFAS, and radiation on health across the lifespan, including transgenerational effects. Freeman's studies also look at neurodegenerative diseases, especially Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, and endocrine dysfunction as it relates to cancer. Her work employs zebrafish as a vertebrate model to translate findings to human health.
