Biography

Jennifer M. Gómez is a Ford Fellow and a Black feminist trauma researcher and critical race scholar. She developed Cultural Betrayal Trauma Theory to examine the impacts of oppression and the outcomes of violence on marginalized individuals and communities. Her book, 'The Cultural Betrayal of Black Women & Girls: A Black Feminist Approach to Healing Sexual Abuse,' won the 2024 Frank W. Putnam Outstanding Book Award from the International Society for the Study of Trauma & Dissociation (ISSTD). Gómez engages with diverse audiences including race scholars, trauma researchers, trauma clinicians, Black feminists, activists, and those interested in supporting Black women survivors. She joined Boston University's School of Social Work in 2022 as an Assistant Professor and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2025. Gómez also serves as board member and chair of the Research Advisory Committee, is involved in various research initiatives, and has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, books, and media outlets.
