Biography

Jennifer Hewson is an Associate Professor at the University of Calgary in the Faculty of Social Work. She joined the university community in 2005 and has held several leadership roles including Director of the Centre for Social Work Research and Associate Dean of Teaching and Learning. Her academic background includes a PhD in Educational Studies with a focus on Adult, Continuing and Community Education from the University of British Columbia. Dr. Hewson is passionate about student engagement and experiential learning, and she has co-authored several journal articles related to student experiences in social work education. Her research interests are primarily focused on age-friendly communities, gerontological social work education, and the human-animal bond. She has extensive experience supervising and co-supervising both Master’s and PhD students, as well as developing research-based practicum programs. Recently, she has been involved in SSHRC and CIHR funded projects aimed at exploring social support and physical activity participation among older adults. Dr. Hewson is committed to fostering inclusive teaching and learning environments and contributes to community service through various roles related to gerontology.
