Biography

Jen Ikle completed a combined MD/PhD program at the University of Colorado Denver, Anschutz Medical Campus, earning a PhD while working in the lab of Dr. David Clouthier, where she studied genetics and transcriptional regulatory networks with an emphasis on craniofacial development in embryos. After completing her MD, Jen finished her Pediatrics Residency and Fellowship in Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes at Washington University in St. Louis, working at St. Louis Children's Hospital. Her fellowship experience was further enriched by her time in the lab of Dr. Colin Nichols, where she developed a passion for the regulation of insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells, particularly the role of ATP-sensitive potassium (KATP) channels. She has a specific interest in genetic disruptions of these channels, which can lead to neonatal diabetes in gain-of-function mutations and congenital hyperinsulinism in loss-of-function mutations. Her clinical interests are primarily focused on diabetes and hyperinsulinism.
