Biography

Jennifer Johnson is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Education Policy, Organization and Leadership at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. She completed her Ph.D. in Educational Studies from the University of Oklahoma and holds an Ed.M. in Curriculum & Instruction with an emphasis on language literacy, as well as a B.A. in Elementary Education from Arizona State University. Her research interests include Indigenous education, the influence of historical social barriers on educational access, and the interplay between educational policy and practice. Johnson teaches courses that focus on the historical development of American education, Indigenous knowledge systems, and methods of educational inquiry. She aims to empower students to critically engage with educational research and understand the social constructions of citizenship within schools. Her work emphasizes the importance of Indigenous-led movements and the need to revitalize language and cultural education within communities.
