Dr. Jennifer Knust

Biography

Jennifer Wright Knust is a Professor of Religious Studies at Duke University, where she specializes in early Christian history and the religions of the ancient Mediterranean. Knust is the author of several significant works, including 'Cast Stone: Transmission of Gospel Story' (with Tommy Wasserman, Princeton 2018), 'Unprotected Texts: The Bible’s Surprising Contradictions on Sex and Desire' (HarperONE 2011), and 'Abandoned Lust: Sexual Slander in Ancient Christianity' (Columbia 2005). Her academic work focuses on early Christian texts, their contexts, and their receptions. She has held several prominent positions within the university, including Director of the Center for Late Ancient Studies and Chair of the Religious Studies Department. Knust has contributed to the understanding of biblical texts and their implications on contemporary issues surrounding sexuality and desire.
