Professor Jennifer Murphy received her Ph.D. in Chemistry from Memorial University in 2019, focusing on the valorization of blue mussel waste from the aquaculture industry. Her research aimed to biorefine mussel waste to develop new chemical materials and products from calcium carbonate-rich shells. During her Ph.D., she was awarded the Research Development Corporation Newfoundland Labrador Ocean Industries Student Research Award and the NSERC Alexander Graham Bell Canada Graduate Scholarship. Professor Murphy completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Windsor, where she worked on the synthesis and characterization of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and coordination polymers for active pharmaceutical ingredients under physiological conditions. From 2021 to 2022, she held the NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of California Berkeley, where she synthesized new materials for direct air capture. Currently, she is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Guelph since January 2023, where she leads a research group focusing on the design and development of materials for carbon capture, utilization, and storage applications. Her research interests include carbon capture materials, crystallography, organic and inorganic synthesis, and the development of functional sorbent materials for sustainable atmospheric carbon removal.
