Biography

Jennifer Nafziger is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Alberta. She holds a Ph.D. in Water Resources Engineering from the University of Alberta, obtained in 2018, and a Bachelor of Applied Science in Geological Engineering from the University of Waterloo, completed in 2006. Jennifer's research interests focus on winter river environments and the challenges posed by cold regions, specifically regarding water resources and ice jam flooding. She has worked as a River Hydraulics Ice Engineer at the Alberta River Forecast Centre and in various engineering roles prior. Her research aims to develop new tools and policies to address the socio-economic and environmental challenges associated with managing Canada’s cold-region rivers, especially in the context of climate change. Jennifer is a registered Professional Engineer in Alberta and a member of several professional affiliations, including the Canadian Geophysical Union's Committee on River Ice Processes and Environment. She has received multiple awards for her contributions to the field and actively teaches courses on Water Resources Engineering Design and River Ice Engineering at her university.
