Biography

Jennifer Navarro Chavez is a graduate student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, enrolled in the PhD program in Human Ecology with a focus on Human Development and Family Studies. As a Latine scholar, her research interests center around the social and cultural factors that affect the psychological and socio-emotional development and well-being of Latine children and families. She investigates how structural factors, such as discrimination, create stress and influence psychological, physical, and emotional health and development. In addition to her primary interests, she is also focused on the role of familial support and cultural values as protective factors, as well as the importance of culturally relevant mindfulness practices. With a commitment to an intersectional and social justice-oriented approach, Jennifer is dedicated to representing and empowering the Latine community through her work.
