Biography

Jennifer E. Phillips-Cremins is an Associate Professor in the Department of Genetics at the University of Pennsylvania. She earned her B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Clarkson University in 1999 and her Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2007. Her research focuses on the three-dimensional organization of genomes and its implications for cellular function. The Cremins lab employs advanced molecular technologies like Chromosome-Conformation-Capture and high-throughput sequencing to create high-resolution 3-D genome architecture maps. The lab develops computational tools to model chromatin and integrate 3-D architecture with genome-wide epigenetic modifications. Ongoing research investigates the role of higher-order chromatin organization in the differentiation of embryonic stem cells and the reprogramming of somatic cells into induced pluripotent stem cells. The ultimate goal is to manipulate chromatin structure to control cellular phenotypes for applications in regenerative medicine and neurodegenerative disease treatment.
