Dr. Jennifer Plichta

Biography

Jennifer K. Plichta is an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery and the Department of Population Health Sciences at Duke University. She serves as the Director of the Breast Risk Assessment Clinic at the Duke Cancer Institute, where she provides care for patients with breast cancer, benign breast problems, and those at increased risk for breast cancer. Her clinical interests include establishing routine breast cancer risk assessments for women and creating personalized management strategies for those identified as high risk. Dr. Plichta's research focuses on identifying and managing risk factors for breast cancer, including genetic mutations like BRCA, abnormal breast biopsies, and family histories of breast cancer. She is actively studying metastatic breast cancer and the staging processes used to improve patient care and education. In addition to her research, she is committed to educating the community about breast cancer and is involved in fundraising efforts for breast cancer research and education. She is also the creator and primary coordinator of Duke's free annual breast education day for the community, known as “What’s Breasts?”.
