Biography

Jennifer L. Schally joined the faculty at Penn State Harrisburg in 2014. She is a Lecturer in the Department of Criminal Justice and regularly teaches courses in criminology, race, and crime. She earned her Ph.D. in sociology with a concentration in criminology from the University of Tennessee in 2014. Additionally, she holds an M.A. in community psychology with a focus on social change concerning environmental issues, along with a B.S. in sociology from Penn State Harrisburg. Her dissertation research investigated the discursive construction of harm to the environment caused by nonhumans in agribusiness. Currently, her research explores the cultural logics of ethical vegans and the framing logics of discourses of resistance to the widespread harm of animals. Dr. Schally’s work has been published in academic journals such as the Journal of Sociology and Social Welfare, the American Journal of Community Psychology, and the Journal of Interpersonal Violence.
