Biography

Jennifer Wallace studied Classics and English as an undergraduate at the University of Cambridge, where she later completed her doctorate on Romantic Hellenism. Since taking her current post as Harris Fellow and Director of Studies in English at Peterhouse in 1995, she has been an affiliated lecturer in the Faculty of English. With a significant interest in Greece, Wallace has served on the jury for the annual London Hellenic Prize since 2010, an award for books related to Greece. She has been involved in the production committee for the Cambridge Greek Play and organized four international conferences in Cambridge, supported by the Judith E. Wilson Fund, focusing on the performance of Greek tragedy and collaboration between academics and theatre practitioners. Additionally, she is an Associate Editor for the Classical Receptions Journal and a member of the Advisory Board for Oxford Classical Reception Commentaries. Wallace has been invited to speak at various institutions across the UK, Europe, and the United States, highlighting her expertise in literature and its intersections with ancient Greece. Her recent keynote addresses include presentations at significant conferences such as the International Comparative Literature Association Congress and the MLA Convention. Over the years, she has developed her research and writing around topics including Classical reception, women's and gender studies in classics, and the archaeological poetics of Greek tragedy.
