Biography

Jenny Goldstein is an Assistant Professor in the Global Development Section at Cornell University. She is a political ecologist and human geographer whose research focuses on the intersection of technology and nature-society relations. Her current projects examine the role of seaweed in the global bioeconomy and challenges related to scaling seaweed-based innovations. Jenny employs qualitative, multi-sited ethnographic research methods to explore developments in Norway, the Philippines, and Indonesia, particularly around innovation in biobased materials. She has previously researched Indonesia’s peatlands, exploring how technologies such as carbon accounting and satellite monitoring impact conservation efforts. As a faculty fellow at the Atkinson Center for Sustainability, Jenny leads interdisciplinary projects and has served as the Chair of the Cultural and Political Ecology specialty group of the American Association of Geographers. Her education includes a PhD in Geography from UCLA and a Master's degree also in Geography from the same institution. Jenny is involved in several grants focusing on climate mitigation and the socio-political dimensions of environmental technologies, demonstrating her commitment to addressing pressing environmental challenges through innovative research solutions.
