Biography

Jenny Jarlsdotter Wikström is an Associate Professor in Comparative Literature at Umeå University. Her research interests focus on ecocritical, ecofeminist, and environmental perspectives within comparative literature, exploring how literary texts, particularly fiction and poetry, engage with these themes. She uses new theoretical frameworks that emphasize materiality, corporeality, and environmentalism. Her dissertation, titled "Material Turns," examines the works of four 20th century writers: Henry Parland from Finland, Clarice Lispector from Brazil, Aase Berg from Sweden, and Eva-Stina Byggmästar from Finland. Through her research, she emphasizes how texts negotiate subjectivity and the material environment, analyzing the subject-object divide. Currently, she is involved in a research project titled "Danger Classroom?" and teaches advanced level courses in literary history and poetics, while also supervising undergraduate students.
