Dr. Zhou's research primarily focuses on cardiovascular retinal diseases, particularly the molecular mechanisms underlying angiogenesis and vasculogenesis in vascular diseases. Notably, she established an inducible endothelial-specific CCM3 mouse model to better understand human cerebral cavernous malformation (CCM) and has made significant contributions to the field, thereby offering new hope to CCM patients. Dr. Zhou is a member of several professional organizations, including NAVBO, AHA, and ARVO. Throughout her career, she has been recognized with multiple awards, such as the AHA Career Development Award (2019) and various travel fellowships.
