Biography

Jenny Huanjiao Zhou received her M.D. and Ph.D. degrees from Sun Yat-sen University, China. She completed her doctoral studies with a specialization in ophthalmology at the Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center, and later pursued post-doctoral training in vascular biology at the Department of Pathology, Yale School of Medicine. Dr. Zhou's research primarily focuses on cardiovascular retinal diseases, particularly the molecular mechanisms underlying angiogenesis and vasculogenesis in vascular diseases. Notably, she established an inducible endothelial-specific CCM3 mouse model to better understand human cerebral cavernous malformation (CCM) and has made significant contributions to the field, thereby offering new hope to CCM patients. Dr. Zhou is a member of several professional organizations, including NAVBO, AHA, and ARVO. Throughout her career, she has been recognized with multiple awards, such as the AHA Career Development Award (2019) and various travel fellowships. Her ongoing projects aim to explore the pathogenesis of cerebral cavernous malformations and the critical role of mitochondrial proteins in major retinal diseases.
