Biography

Jens-Christian Svenning is a macroecologist and biogeographer with a strong interest in plants, animals, and their interactions with the world. He is highly motivated to contribute towards overcoming the climate and biodiversity crises and promoting sustainable societal development. His research includes fundamental drivers of biodiversity, the impacts of climate change on ecosystems, and human-nature interactions both past and future. Key applied research foci involve predictive modelling, the use of space-borne remote sensing technology, and ecological sustainability, while he is particularly interested in rewilding as a promising approach for ecosystem restoration. Svenning is committed to ensuring that the societal benefits of research knowledge are realized, working closely with a range of public and private actors on conservation, restoration, and sustainability projects.
