Biography

Jens Bukh is a Professor at the University of Copenhagen specializing in Virology within the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences. His research primarily focuses on the Copenhagen Hepatitis C Program (CO-HEP), which delves into the basic studies of the hepatitis C virus life cycle and its significant clinical implications. Aiming to contribute to the development of therapies and vaccines, his work addresses the global health challenge posed by hepatitis C, where approximately 150 million individuals are chronically infected, leading to an elevated risk of liver cirrhosis and cancer, resulting in approximately 500 thousand deaths annually. This vital research area not only enhances the understanding of the hepatitis C virus but also strives to reduce its impact on public health.
