Dr. Jens Hainmueller

Biography

Jens Hainmueller is the Kimberly Glenn Professor of Political Science at Stanford University, where he also serves as the Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Political Science. He co-directs the Stanford Immigration Policy Lab and holds faculty affiliations with the Stanford Center for Causal Science and the Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence. Hainmueller's esteemed career is highlighted by his involvement with the Maternal & Child Health Research Institute at Stanford's School of Medicine, and he is known for his impactful research in statistical methods, causal inference, immigration, and political economy, boasting nearly 70 articles and over 40,000 citations. His work has been published in top-tier journals including Science, Nature, and PNAS, and he has developed widely adopted statistical methods such as synthetic control methods and entropy balancing. As an educator, Hainmueller teaches courses on causal inference and data science, earning multiple teaching awards throughout his career. He has held various prestigious positions, including an Associate Professorship with tenure in the Department of Political Science at Stanford University, and has received several awards for his academic excellence.
