Biography

Jens Rittscher was appointed as a Senior Research Fellow in 2013 and subsequently elected as Professor of Engineering Science in 2014 at the University of Oxford, where he is also an adjunct member of the Ludwig Institute of Cancer Research and the Wellcome Centre for Human Genomics. His research primarily focuses on enhancing the understanding of complex biological processes through the analysis of image data acquired at the microscopic scale. He develops innovative algorithms and computational platforms aimed at improving mechanistic understanding in cancer patient care through quantitative image data analysis. Jens has co-founded Ground Truth Labs Ltd to commercialize research in computational pathology and has previously held a position as an adjunct assistant professor at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute from 2013 to 2020. His expertise encompasses various fields, including biomedical imaging, video surveillance, automatic annotation of video, and analysis of volumetric seismic data. Jens is currently the co-director of the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Health Data Science and has been a member of the UK EPSRC Healthcare Technologies Strategic Advisory Team since 2021.
