Dr. Jeom Paik

Biography

Professor Jeom-Kee Paik is a Professor of Marine Technology in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at University College London (UCL). He serves as the Director of the UCL Global Industrial Technology Cooperation Centre (UCL GITCC) and leads the UCL Marine Safety Digital Healthcare Engineering Group. An International Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, he has held chair professorships at various universities in China. Professor Paik has been recognized as the number one scholar in Naval Engineering worldwide and has received several international accolades, including the William Froude Medal from the Royal Institution of Naval Architects. Throughout his career, he has led over 75 industry-funded research projects and secured substantial funding from diverse organizations across Korea, the UK, and the US. He has also made significant contributions to higher education, supervising numerous MSc and PhD candidates and publishing extensively, with over 700 technical publications to his name. His research interests encompass nonlinear structural mechanics and safety design engineering in extreme conditions, and he is a pioneer in Digital Healthcare Engineering for offshore structures. Professor Paik has played a crucial role in advancing marine technology and safety engineering through his leadership in professional organizations and conferences.
