Professor Dr. Jeong Hee Lee Kalisch

Biography

Jeong-hee Lee-Kalisch is a distinguished professor in East Asian Art History at the Free University of Berlin. Her academic journey began with her studies in art history and sinology at the University of Cologne, where she earned both a Bachelor and Master degree. Lee-Kalisch completed her doctorate with a thesis on Chinese landscape painting. Throughout her career, she has been deeply involved in several significant exhibition projects pertaining to East Asian art, acting as head curator and contributing her extensive knowledge to the fields of Chinese and Korean art history. Her research interests are focused on Chinese and Korean painting, especially Mahāyāna Buddhist art, and she has published extensively on these subjects. As a former member of the Board of Trustees of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Ostasiatische Kunst, she continues to engage in vital research and academic collaborations that bridge cultural heritage and contemporary practices in art. Her innovative contributions to teaching, especially in developing digital resources for art history courses, highlight her commitment to education in the global context of art historical studies.
