Biography

Jeremy Balka is an Associate Professor at the University of Guelph in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. He received his PhD in Statistics from the University of Guelph in 2005 and joined the faculty in 2007. His research primarily focuses on survival analysis and cure rate modeling, which involves modeling time-to-event data to determine the proportion of a population that experiences a given event. He is a proponent of providing free qualitative learning resources and has been recognized for his contributions to statistical education, serving as the Country Coordinator for the International Statistical Literacy Project and as Chair of the Statistics Education Committee for the Statistical Society of Canada. Balka has also received several awards for his teaching excellence, including the Distinguished Professor Award from the University of Guelph Faculty Association in 2013.
