Biography

Dr. Chan is a board-certified Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Stanford University. He specializes in the surgical treatment of orthopedic conditions affecting the foot and ankle, including ankle arthroscopy, ankle fusions, total ankle replacement, deformity reconstruction, ligament and tendon repair, and fractures involving the foot and ankle. Dr. Chan has treated athletes at both recreational and professional levels, with particular interest in the treatment of acute foot and ankle injuries, including Achilles ruptures and lateral ankle ligament injuries. He is known for his expertise in early weightbearing and accelerated rehabilitation approaches for ankle fractures and Achilles tendon surgery. As a faculty member, Dr. Chan serves as a team physician for Stanford Athletics and the curriculum director for the Stanford orthopedic residency program. He is actively involved in resident education and has received the Saul Halpern Orthopedic Educator Year Award. His research includes flatfoot reconstruction, for which he was awarded the Leonard J. Goldner Award. Dr. Chan has authored and co-authored 20 peer-reviewed articles and is a member of several professional organizations including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society.
