Dr. Jeremy Horder

Biography

Jeremy Horder is a prominent academic in the field of Criminal Law, currently holding a Professorship at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). He graduated from the University of Hull in 1984, followed by the University of Oxford in 1986. Horder undertook a Research Fellowship at Jesus College, Oxford from 1987 to 1989 and became the Porjes Trust Tutorial Fellow in Law at Worcester College, Oxford, serving from 1989 to 2010. During his tenure, he chaired Oxford’s Faculty of Law from 1998 to 2000 and served as the Law Commissioner for England and Wales, focusing on criminal law reform from 2005 to 2010. He was later appointed Edmund Davies Professor of Criminal Law at King’s College London from 2010 to 2013. Horder has an extensive publication record, contributing significantly to discussions surrounding criminal law and its intersection with politics, ethics, and social issues. His books include 'Principles of Criminal Law', focusing on major crimes and their doctrines, and 'Homicide: Politics and Law Reform', which critically examines homicide laws and reform prospects. He is actively involved in ongoing academic discourse and legal reform initiatives, particularly regarding issues like bribery and political corruption. In recognition of his contributions, he holds an honorary LL.D from the University of Hull and is an Honorary Bencher at Middle Temple.
