Biography

Jeremy Michalek is a Professor at Carnegie Mellon University’s College of Engineering, with a dual appointment in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Department of Engineering and Public Policy. He is the founding director of the Design Decisions Laboratory and co-director of the Vehicle Electrification Group, as well as an active member of the Center for Climate and Energy Decision Making. Michalek earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in 1999, followed by an M.S. in 2001 and a Ph.D. in 2005 from the University of Michigan. He has previously worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Michigan before joining CMU as a faculty member. Michalek teaches courses related to design, product development, economic analysis, entrepreneurship, and optimization. His research has been featured in various outlets, and he has received several awards for his remarkable contributions to the field, including honors from ASME and the National Science Foundation. Michalek is actively involved in professional organizations such as ASME, INFORMS, and the Transportation Research Board.
