Biography

Jeremy Richardson, born in Cardiff, studied at Cambridge University and took his PhD under the supervision of Stuart Althorpe. He later became a postdoctoral fellow at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg in the group of Michael Thoss and subsequently a Junior Research Fellow at Durham University. In September 2016, he joined ETH Zürich as an Assistant Professor in Theoretical Molecular Quantum Dynamics, and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2023. His research focuses on developing semiclassical methods for simulating quantum dynamics. His group's work aims to incorporate quantum effects into molecular simulations with algorithms that scale like classical methods. This includes the use of path-integral methods, semiclassical instanton theory, and ring-polymer molecular dynamics to study quantum-mechanical tunneling in molecules and clusters. Additionally, he explores nonadiabatic transitions, also known as quantum jumps, utilizing innovative mixed quantum-classical methods based on classical trajectories.
