Jeremy Sloan is a Reader in Electron Microscopy in the Department of Physics at the University of Warwick. He obtained his B.Sc. in Chemistry from the University of Hull in 1982, followed by an M.Sc. in 1990 from the State University of New York at Binghamton, and his PhD in Materials in 1995 from the School of Engineering at the University of Wales, Cardiff. He joined the Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory at the University of Oxford in 1995 as a Postdoctoral Research Assistant, where he worked on extreme nanowires and characterized atomic layer structures. Sloan was awarded a Royal Society University Research Fellowship in 2000 and a Research Fellowship at Wolfson College in 2003. After serving as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Surrey, he moved to the University of Warwick in 2008, where he has developed a reputation for his work in advanced electron microscopy and solid-state physics, particularly in the synthesis and characterization of novel crystal structures. His research interests encompass the synthesis of atomically confined nanowires and the development of 'smart' nanocomposites for energy storage applications. He is actively involved in research collaborations with various institutions and has received multiple awards, including the FEI European Microscopy Award in 2004 and the EPSRC Established Career Fellowship from 2018 to 2023.
