Dr. Jeremy Waldron

Biography

Jeremy Waldron is a Professor of Law at NYU School of Law, where he teaches legal political philosophy. He is a prolific scholar with extensive writings in jurisprudence and political theory, including notable works on rights, constitutionalism, the rule of law, democracy, property, torture, security, and homelessness. Waldron's books include 'Dignity, Rank, Rights' (2012), 'Partly Laws Common Mankind: Foreign Law American Courts' (2012), 'Harm Hate Speech' (2012), and 'Torture, Terror, Trade-offs: Philosophy White House' (2010). He was born and educated in New Zealand, where he completed his degrees in philosophy and law at the University of Otago and became a barrister and solicitor admitted to the Supreme Court of New Zealand in 1978. Waldron furthered his studies at Oxford University, earning a Doctorate in Legal Philosophy and subsequently teaching at various prestigious institutions, including the University of Edinburgh and Princeton University. He has received numerous accolades, including being elected as a fellow to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1998 and the British Academy in 2011. His contributions to legal philosophy include numerous lectures and publications that reflect on modern democratic institutions and their ideals.
