Jernej Barbic received an undergraduate Mathematics degree from the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, and earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University in 2007. He worked as a postdoctoral researcher at MIT from 2007 to 2009 before joining the faculty of the Computer Science Department at the University of Southern California in August 2009. He was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in 2015 and became a Full Professor in 2021. His research interests include computer graphics, animation, real-time simulation, numerical mathematics, Finite Element Method, applied mechanics, collision detection, contact, medical imaging, and haptic rendering.
