Biography

Jeroen Boom is an Assistant Professor of Visual Culture Studies at Radboud University Nijmegen. His research primarily focuses on the intersection of politics and ethics within contemporary (documentary) cinema, as well as global politics and ecological violence. He is currently engaged in a book project that examines themes of opacity and visual disruptions, including the impact of essay films on migration narratives. In addition to his individual research, Boom co-directed the seminar series Minor Movements: Create Space for Personal Political Change with Niels Niessen and is currently a co-organizer of the seminar series Aquatic Thinking in the Fluid Age with László Munteán at the Netherlands Institute for Cultural Analysis. Through these initiatives, he contributes to the Critical Humanities research group, fostering discussions on visual culture, documentary cinema, and contingent aesthetics.
