Jeroen Dewulf is the Queen Beatrix Professor of Dutch Studies at the University of California, Berkeley's Department of German. He serves as an undergraduate advisor and is the graduate advisor for Berkeley’s Folklore Program. Dewulf is the Faculty Academic Director of Berkeley Study Abroad and chairs the UCEAP Faculty Directors group. He is a member of the UC Berkeley International Activities Coordination group and the director of the Berkeley’s Center for Portuguese Studies. His research interests span Dutch and Portuguese colonial and postcolonial history, literature, religion, culture, the transatlantic slave trade, and Black cultural and folkloric religious traditions in the Americas. Dewulf has published in five languages and has received numerous awards throughout his career, including the Hellman Family Faculty Fund and the Robert O. Collins Award for African Studies. He has also been recognized with the Hendricks Award from the New Netherland Institute and the Louisiana History President’s Memorial Award. His recent book, 'Afro-Atlantic Catholics,' was awarded the John Gilmary Shea Prize. Dewulf is affiliated with the University of Lisbon's Center of History and has served as a visiting professor at multiple institutions including LMU Munich and the University of São Paulo. His educational background includes a PhD in German Literature from the University of Bern, a Master's in Portuguese Studies from the University of Porto, and a major in Germanic Philology from the University of Ghent, Belgium.
