Biography

Jeroen Kalkman studied physics at the Free University Amsterdam and holds a PhD degree in Physics from Utrecht University. His PhD research was conducted at the FOM Institute of Atomic and Molecular Physics in the Photonic Materials group, focusing on 'Controlled spontaneous emission in erbium-doped microphotonic materials.' After several years in industrial research at Philips NatLab in Eindhoven, he returned to academia, working in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Physics at the Academic Medical Centre in Amsterdam. Kalkman has developed a keen interest in optical coherence tomography (OCT). Currently, he is at Delft University of Technology in the Department of Imaging Physics, where he leads a research group focused on optical tomography and has published nearly 50 peer-reviewed papers and nine patent applications. He has also received various research grants throughout his academic career.
